Marija Bartl and Nena van der Horst’s proposal to introduce a mandatory ‘Transition Reserve’ has been published as an opinion piece in the EUobserver and De Trouw.
Requiring large emitters to keep enough money on their accounts to be able to pay for the costs of their green transition, Marija and Nena propose the implementation of a ‘Transition Reserve’ as a way to create a new perspective on how companies should manage their resources, increase transparency towards investors, significantly step towards achieving climate goals and lower the moral hazard for large polluters who may be considered ‘too big to fail’.
